LIFE GraPhiRec : Waste GRAPhite RECycling for new lithium and alkaline batteries

Batteries are a key technology to drive the green transition, support the shift to electrical mobility and contribute to climate neutrality by 2050. Indeed, graphite was listed by the EU among the 34 strategic Critical Raw Materials and it is crucial as anode material for making every type of battery, either Lithium-based or alkaline. Strategic actions are required to overcome the graphite supply dependence from China and make battery production more sustainable.

new MOnitoring system to Detect the Effects of Reduced pollutants emissions resulting from NEC

MAIN PROJECT OBJECTIVE(s): to fulfil the needs of DIRECTIVE (EU) 2016/2284 on the establishment of national emissions ceilings, to comply with the request for representativeness of sites and indicators as required by the NEC Directive, to properly define the most suitable indicators and the optimal number of sites, to full monitor adequate network together with freshwater and forests as reference, to raise Italian public awareness about pollution sources, to increase knowledge exchanges between EU Member States involved in NEC implementation.

Currently, more than half of all materials extracted globally (over three billion tonnes/year in the EU only) are transformed for use in construction. The EU aims to reduce the environmental impact of the construction sector by recycling or re-using large amounts of these materials, thus reducing the consumption of raw materials and helping promote the sector’s economic stability.
